Definition
Chronic gastritis is the histologically detectable chronic inflammation of the mucous membrane of the stomach.
Etiology and classification
Chronic gastritis can be classified into one of three forms depending on the triggering cause.
Type A gastritis (autoimmune gastritis) - 5% autoimmune antibodies (APCA) against parietal cells and intrinsic factor starts in the corpus, later on fundus as well
Type B gastritis (bacterial gastritis) - 85% bacterial due to Helicobacter pylori, localization up to 40% only in antrum, up to 50% in antrum and corpus, up to 10% only in corpus
Type C gastritis (chemical gastritis) - 10% chemically by NSAIDs or reflux of bile into fundus, corous and / or antrum
